
On the evening of March 13 Gena Hull was presented with the 2012 Ruby Award Recipient. Gena is a victim advocate with Morning Star Shelter. A victim of domestic violence herself, Gena transitioned from a volunteer to a full-time advocacy position and has served thousands of men, women and children throughout the years. She is the founding member of the Nashville Coalition Against domestic Violence and currently serves on the Mayor’s Domestic Violence Death Review Team. Gena joined Morning Star Sanctuary in 1997 and continues that work today as the Coordinator of Community Programs and court Advocacy.

Raydhira “Ray” Alexandra Abreu received the Woman’s Opportunity Award. A domestic violence survivor and mother of two, Ray is studying at Trevecca Nazarene University in Social Justice. She hopes to obtain a master’s degree and open her own shelter for women.
